Weekly Scarf-Tying: Pleated Bow
A small scarf can add a beautiful finishing touch to a simple button-down shirt. In this guide, you’ll learn how to create a pleated bow knot that sits neatly at your collar and brings a little extra personality to your look.
The combination of a looped knot and pleated scarf creates a polished detail that you can adjust to suit your personal style.
Steps
Position the Scarf
Action: Drape the scarf evenly underneath your shirt collar, with one end hanging on each side.
Result: Both ends of the scarf are positioned evenly and ready for tying.
Feed the Right End Through
Action: Take the right end of the scarf and feed it underneath the top buttoned button of your shirt, which is the second button from the top.
Result: The right side of the scarf is held in position by the shirt button.
Create the Looped Knot
Action: Using the right side of the scarf, form a loop and knot that side.
Result: You have a looped knot on the right, ready to hold the pleated section.
Pleat the Left Side
Action: Take the loose left side of the scarf and carefully pleat the fabric.
Result: The left side forms the pleated shape of your bow.
Tighten the Looped Knot
Action: Tighten the looped knot around the pleated section to hold the bow in place.
Result: The pleated bow is formed and held securely.
Center and Adjust the Bow
Action: Bring the finished bow toward the center and gently adjust the pleats, scarf, and bow shape to your liking.
Result: Your pleated bow knot is complete and neatly positioned.
Try this pleated bow knot with your favorite button-down shirt and see how you like to shape and position it. It’s a lovely way to bring your own personality into an outfit.
