Weekly Scarf-Tying: Twist & Tie

With a little twisting, looping, and shaping, you can turn a large scarf into an elegant floral knot that adds softness and personality to your look.

This is an advanced scarf tie, so take your time with each step and follow along with video linked below. The final shaping is where the flower really comes to life.

Steps

Double and Loop the Scarf
Action: Begin with your scarf doubled, then loop it around your neck.
Result: You should have the doubled loop on one side and the open ends of the scarf on the other.

Cross and Loosely Cinch the Open Side
Action: Cross the open ends of the scarf and gently cinch them together.
Result: The scarf should begin to hold its position without becoming too tight.

Feed One End Through the Loop
Action: Take one end of the scarf and feed it through the loop created when you doubled the scarf at the beginning.
Result: One end will now pass through the loop and begin forming the foundation of your knot.

Tighten Evenly
Action: Pull both ends of the scarf evenly until the scarf sits comfortably around your neck.
Result: The knot should feel secure while still allowing enough room for you to continue shaping it.

Cross and Cinch Again
Action: Cross the two scarf ends once more and pull them snugly toward the knot forming at the front of your neck.
Result: You should now have a firmer central knot ready for the decorative twist.

Twist the Ends Together
Action: Twist the two ends of the scarf around each other as many times as needed to create a reasonably tight twisted pattern.
Result: The ends should form one neat, rope-like twist.
Note: A consistent twist will help give the finished floral knot a more balanced appearance.

Feed the Ends Back Through the Neck Loop
Action: Bring the twisted scarf ends back toward your neck and feed them through the existing loop.
Result: The twisted section will begin to gather around the central knot and create the base of your flower.

Open and Shape the Floral Knot
Action: Gently open, spread, and adjust the scarf until the folds create the floral shape you want.
Result: You should have a soft, full flower sitting at the front of your neck.

Once you have mastered the technique, try adjusting the size and fullness of the flower to complement different outfits. A silk scarf is a lovely way to bring creativity and personal style into even a simple look.
